        It started by accident. Just me, a home kitchen in 2022, and a whole lot of butter.

        Baking for friends quickly turned into baking for neighbors. Then came the local dessert catering. Suddenly, my time was split between two very different jobs, and I had a choice to make.

        I chose community.

        I graduated from The Culinary Institute of America, but my real education happened in France. After college, I worked in vineyards and rural French kitchens. I fell in love with a specific kind of hospitality. Small towns. Open doors. Locals eager to pull up an extra chair and share a glass of wine.

        That is the exact feeling I want to bring home.

        Today, K. Marie's is my full-time reality. As a dedicated Chelsea MI bakery, the focus is simple: high-quality, seasonal produce and sincere hospitality. Vibrant Michigan berries folded into traditional European baked goods. The deep, nutty aroma of browned butter. The satisfying crackle of a fresh Kouign Amann.

        Life has shifted a lot lately. I got married, and we recently welcomed our son, Harlan. Becoming a mother changed my approach to this business. It made everything more deeply rooted in family.

        You will see that reflected in the food. I design custom cakes Chelsea families celebrate over. I bake artisanal pastries Washtenaw County locals share on slow Sunday mornings. Most importantly, you can find me, and sometimes Harlan, every Saturday at the market.

        Good food. No pretense. Just a warm pastry across the table.

      • On the Menu

        A Note on Dietary Restrictions Most cakes, tarts, and cookies can be made gluten-free upon request. Because our recipes rely heavily on traditional French technique and real ingredients, we cannot accommodate dairy-free or egg-free requests at this time.

      • Morning Pastries & Cookies

        These are the staples. The European baked goods that get me out of bed before dawn. We bake Kouign Amann for that loud sugary shatter. Canelés with a deeply caramelized dark crust and a soft, rum-soaked center. Brown-butter financiers. Blood orange teacakes.

        For the cookie jar. Salted chocolate chip cookies. Lemon lavender shortbread. Rich double chocolate fondants and our classic salted sable. Grab a coffee. Take your time.

      • Seasonal Tarts

        Rustic edges. Serious fillings. The menu rotates heavily based on what is growing nearby, but the standard never changes.

        Right now, we are baking a Fig and Pecan Tart featuring pecan frangipane and dark prunes soaked in Cognac. We also have a Peanut Chai Tart rich with ganache, candied praline peanuts, and cinnamon chantilly. When the berries hit, look for the Blueberry Tart built over lemon frangipane. We build these entirely by hand. They look beautiful on a table, but they are meant to be sliced and shared.

      • Celebration Cakes & Paris-Brest

        Cakes need to taste incredible on the fork. We design bespoke cakes you actually want to eat. No shortcuts. Real buttercream. Tender crumb.

        We bake everything from a delicate Garden Party Blueberry Lemon Chiffon to a classic, unapologetic Fat Chocolate Birthday Cake. For major milestones, we build traditional French Paris-Brest. Rings of crisp choux pastry filled with praline cream. Highlights include our Pistachio Raspberry Paris-Brest and custom number cakes layered with strawberries, cream, and fresh floral accents.

      • Catering & Gatherings

        We bring the kitchen to you. If you are hosting a shower, a casual dinner party, or a small wedding, our local dessert catering scales up that exact market-day quality for a crowd.

        Think High Tea bridal showers with honey thyme madeleines and savory cheese gougères. Full dessert tables layered with mini lemon meringue tarts and towering macaron displays. We also prepare custom macaron boxes for takeaway gifts. Crisp shells. Bright, seasonal fillings.

      • Special Order

        Every order is built from scratch. Because we use seasonal ingredients and customize the design for your specific event, final pricing fluctuates a bit based on flavor, decoration, and transport.

        Here is a baseline to give you an idea of what to expect.

      • Custom Layer Cakes & Cupcakes

        Every cake includes three thick layers of sponge and two layers of filling, finished with real buttercream.

        • 6-inch Round (feeds 6-8): $45
        • 8-inch Round (feeds 10-14): $60
        • 9-inch Round (feeds 16-20): $80
        • Cupcakes: $36 to $48 per dozen

        Favorite Pairings: Vanilla Strawberry, Chocolate Salted Caramel, Lemon Blueberry, Chocolate Raspberry, Vanilla Raspberry Rose, Lemon Raspberry, Carrot Cake with Pecan Praline, Pistachio Chocolate, Blackberry Lavender.

      • Signature European Cakes

        These are the showstoppers. Non-traditional, deeply flavored, and perfect for a crowd. Pricing varies by size.

        • Russian Honey Cake: Made using local honey pulled straight from my husband's hives.
        • Chocolate Olive Oil Cake: Paired with a rich coffee mascarpone cream and amond praline.
        • Brown Butter Hazelnut Cake: Topped with fig jam, caramelized hazelnuts, and chantilly.
        • Traditional Sacher Torte: Rich, dense choclate cake with apricot jam and ganache.
        • Seasonal Pavlova: Crisp shell with a pillowy soft meringue center with custard, cream and fruit.
      • The Paris-Brest

        Imagine a massive, elegant éclair. It is a ring of crisp pâte à choux pastry split and heavily layered with creams, fresh fruits, and praline. It genuinely turns heads when you set it on the table.

        • Serves 12: $45 to $60
        • Current Rotations: Pistachio Raspberry, Amalfi Lemon, Strawberries & Cream, Chocolate Hazelnut, Banoffee.
      • Sweet & Savory Tarts

        Rustic and rich. These are perfect for a casual dinner party, and the savory options work beautifully as an appetizer.

        • Serves 8-12: $32 to $40
        • Savory: Potato Leek, Caramelized Onion & Squash, Fromage Blanc & Spring Pea.
        • Sweet: Fig & Pecan, Peanut Chai, Strawberry Rhubarb, Lemon Custard, Passion Fruit & Mango.

      • Teacakes

        Not too sweet. Generously portioned. These are exactly what you want on the counter for a slow brunch or an afternoon baby shower.

        • Serves 12 (or 24 in a dessert assortment): $40
        • Flavor Highlights: Pumpkin Mocha, London Fog, Raspberry Hibiscus Swirl, Citrus Almond, Apple Fritter, Sour Cream with Streusel.

      • Macarons & Cookies

        We bake a massive variety of classic European baked goods, soft bars, and delicate sable cookies.

        • Minimum Order: $30 per dozen (per flavor).
        • Gifting: Need party favors? We can build custom takeaway boxes for your guests. A small packaging fee applies.
